This stained-glass window brought by the client had quite unusual damage - a bullet hole in one of the elements. We were asked not to replace it with a new one, but preserve the original one, so that the stained-glass window would still carry the memory of the events of 1944. Because as it turned out, the stained-glass was damaged during the Warsaw Uprising.
The first step was to get rid of the yellowed substance that someone had previously patched the hole. Then, in order to be able to really strengthen the glass properly, it was necessary to spread the whole thing along the crack line, clean and glue. For our conservators it was a real challenge, the smallest elements were 1-2 mm long! The defects and the round hole were filled with colorless resins. In this way, we have preserved the original matter entirely, while at the same time we have aesthetically exposed the "essence of the matter" - the bullet hole. The repaired glass is durable and strong.
